Applied Meta-Analysis for Social Science Research

Meta-analysis is the analysis of summary statistics for the purpose of integrating research findings from a pool of empirical research. Similar to structural equation modeling (SEM), meta-analysis is also a popular statistical tool in many disciplines in the social, behavioral, and medical sciences. There are already many good books on meta-analysis on the market. Hedges and Olkin (1985) and Hunter and Schmidt (2004) are the classic and standard texts on this subject. Borenstein, Hedges, Higgins, and Rothstein (2009), Cooper (2010), and Lipsey and Wilson (2000) provide a comprehensive introduction for beginners, and Cooper, Hedges, and Valentine (2009) and Whitehead (2002) cover many advanced and specialized topics in meta-analysis.
