Die Stadtwerke Düsseldorf Netz GmbH betreiben derzeit ein Fernwärmenetz mit einer Länge von ca. 190 km, welches unter anderem vom Heizkraftwerk Lausward gespeist wird. Für den zukunftsorientierten Ausbau des Fernwärmenetzes im Stadtgebiet Düsseldorf war die Anbindung der linksrheinisch gelegenen Stadtteile an das bestehende rechtsrheinische Fernwärmenetz notwendig.
