A new pipe organ for the Basilica of Constantine in Trier - minimized construction in the UNESCO world heritage site

摘要

It has been an unusual task for an international architectural design competition: A gigantic pipe organ with a total volume of about 450 m(3) and 32 tons self-weight should be integrated as inconspicuously as possible into the monumental structure of the Basilica of Constantine in Trier, Germany being an UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Furthermore the constructional interventions in the historic building conditions should be as small as possible.
