Eminent Structural Engineer: Prof. Dr Heinz Isler (1926-2009)

With the demise of Heinz Isler (Fig. 1) on 20 June 2009, at the age of 82, the world has lost one of its most influential and innovative structural engineers, who alongside Eduardo Torroja and Felix Candela must surely be considered as one of the master reinforced concrete shell builders of the 20th century. Acknowledged by engineers and architects alike, his most inspiring works have been described as structural art.
