Design and Construction of the Fabian Way Bridge Superstructure, Swansea, UK

摘要

The Fabian Way Bridge crosses a dual carriageway in Swansea and forms part of a local express bus route. The superstructure design was developed in close collaboration with the end client, main contractor and steelwork sub-contractor and maximises offsite prefabrication and buildability whilst achieving a graceful yet striking new landmark. This paper will describe the reasons for the selection of an all-steel deck as the preferred solution and discuss how the design and detailing were developed to suit the contractor's preferred method of working and to accelerate construction. Key aspects of the bridge erection and stay stressing procedures are described.
