Innovation in Oslo

Nearly 200 professionals in the field of concrete innovation from 34 nations attended the first Concrete Innovation Conference (CIC2014) in Oslo from 11 to 13 June 2014. Initiated by COIN (Concrete Innovation Center) and organized by the Norwegian Concrete Association, the conference covered four themes: 1. Environmentally friendly concrete structures 2. Efficient construction 3. Structural design and performance 4. Prolongation of service life Around 130 papers were presented and eleven were nominated for the innovation contest. The winning papers in the four theme categories were announced during the conference banquet. They were: 1. 'Belite calcium sulfoaluminate ternesite (BCT)' as a new environmentally friendly binder, by Mohsen Ben Haha, Frank Bull-erjahn, Maciej Zajac and Dirk Schmitt of the HeidelbergCement Technology Center in Germany.
