First fib PhD Symposium held in North America

Since 1996, when the first fib PhD Symposium was held in Budapest, Hungary, none has occurred outside of Europe - until this year. The 10th International PhD Symposium in Civil Engineering took place at the University of Laval in Quebec City, Canada, from 21 to 23 July 2014. The symposium provided a forum for PhD students in civil engineering to present their work at an international level, establish contact with their peers from abroad and discuss the results of their studies with a view to supporting future research. One of the unique features of the symposium was a mandatory in-depth discussion, during which young researchers had to deal with comments and questions from the international engineering community.
