The United States in South Asia: An Unending Quest for Stability

When the US ideated its role in South Asia in the early 1950s, it did not prognosticate the recent imbroglio surrounding its security interests in the region. The region is a top priority for the US administration, especially in the post-9/11 period, which brought the Islamic brand of fundamentalism to its threshold. In today's context, it can be stated with a great deal of conviction that the gravest threat to America and the Americans lies far beyond its borders. Except India, which itself is a victim of terror, South Asia (read Afghanistan and Pakistan) has emerged as the epicentre of this global threat and remains a security challenge to the world.
