Properly sizing and configuring a modern storage system to optimally meet the performance, capacity, growth and availability requirements of a business-critical application is a challenging task. In today's economic environment, it is increasingly important to the success of the storage system and IT architecture as well as the entire orga-nization's performance and efficiency. Compounding this complexity is the growth in shared-resource SAN (Storage Area Network) attached storage. Unlike the simple DAS (Direct Attached Storage) which has a set number of hosts, SAN attached storage is growing in popularity as it works to maximize storage utilization and flexibility across multiple hosts and applications and, as a result, is subject to unpredictable changes in workloads.
