Discussion on 'Public Hurricane Loss Evaluation Models: Predicting losses of residential structures in the state of Florida' by S. Hamid et al.

We would like to congratulate the authors for the comprehensive treatment of the problem from all relevant angels and for showing the important role statistics can have in predicting the impact of hurricane on the target area. This problem is a member of the class of natural hazards (droughts, floods, earthquakes, etc.) that requires cross disciplinary collaboration for proper risk analysis. Despite the limited space, the authors have been able to provide the readers a clear understanding of the problem.rnWe will offer a few remarks and questions concerning the authors' usage of statistics in the paper and in the general issue of risk analysis associated with natural disasters.
