In this paper, the development in each stage is reviewed according to the various growth periods in the half century of flavor and fragrance industry in new China. The development of the Chinese flavor and fragrance industry from small to big, totally relying on import to export in large amount, finally to independent, special- ized and industrial system is described in a record-providing way. The Chinese flavor and fragrance industry meeting the challenge of the new century with a brand-new attitude is forecasted.
