1838 The first electric telegraph, installed between Paddigton and West Drayton, a distance of 13 miles, by cooks and wheatstone, used five wires operated in pairs, thus parmitting 20 litters to be transmitted. Only this instrument and its companion, now in Berlin's postal museum, were produced.
