Mariner II fly by of the planet Venus

Between 1962 and 1973, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) designed and built 10 spacecraft named Mariner to explore the inner solar system. Each mission consisted of twin spacecraft and the series started with Mariner I and II in the summer of 1962. Mariner II was the first spacecraft to operate in the vicinity of another planet and the first to return useful scientific data of the planet Venus.
