Around the world in 84 days

For someone who had grown up and watched in awe at the extensive coverage of the Moon landings, the final mission to the US space station Skylab received little exposure in the British media. Yet for this writer, a Lower Sixth student in the days before the advent of the internet and satellite TV, the highlight of everyday was listening on short-wave radio for the latest news from what would become the longest manned space flight at that time. This is an account of that final mission in 1973-74 based on my own tape recordings made from Voice of America radio broadcasts, various British newspapers and other sources in my personal collection.
