Next year may be the International Year of Astronomy but 2008 has been the year of the British student. UKSEDS - celebrating the 20th anniversary of successfully promoting space activities - has been involved in a number of key events including the highly successful IAC 2008 in Glasgow which was preceded by a mini-congress for SEDS chapters from all over the world. Supported by the British Interplanetary Society, the programme consisted of talks from students in Spain, Kuwait, India and the UK, as well as from those involved with other student projects, such as the CubeSats SSETI and SEDSAT II. Other topics included the strengthening of the global SEDS network, various student activities and projects, space and science public outreach, human space exploration and orbital spaceplanes.
