Charles Simonyi

He was born in Budapest on 10 September 1948, the son of Karoly Simonyi, a professor of electrical engineering at Technical University of Budapest. At the age of 17 he left Hungary and moved in 1966 to the United States. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his BSc in engineering mathematics. For graduate studies he went to Stanford University, received his PhD in computer science in 1977.
