Six years of MER operations on Mars

NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers (MER), Spirit and Opportunity survived a third Martian winter during 2009. Although Spirit embedded itself in a patch of soft terrain in Gusev Crater, the rover continued science observations while Opportunity made good progress toward the distant Endeavour Crater in Meridiani Planum.
