Expedition 28 is underway at the International Space Station (ISS) and the orbiting complex is manned by Russian commander Andrey Borisenko and flight engineers, Russian Alexander Samokutyaev, American Ron Garan and the new arrivals of American Mike Fossum, Russian Sergey Volkov and Japan's Satoshi Furukawa. As Space Shuttle Endeavour roared off Pad 39A at 12:56 GMT on 16 May for its final mission, normal work continued on the ISS. Samokutyaev spent several unsuccessful hours on helping Kondratyev to activate the Elektron oxygen generation system that had failed the previous week.
