Remembering the Shuttle

Anyone fortunate enough to attend the BIS evening lecture on the 27 October quickly found themselves transported to the iconic landscape of the Kennedy Space Center, our guide being Matt Melis, a NASA engineer with over 26 years' experience at the Glenn Research Center. Matt's talk encompassed the full 30-year history of the Shuttle programme. Matt pointed out that this remarkable machine carried out many 'missions to planet Earth', with a unique series of achievements including the construction of the ISS and five upgrade missions to the Hubble Space Telescope.
