New man on Moon duty

SEVERAL MONTHS AFTERWilliam Gerstenmaier stood down as associate administrator of NASA's Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate (HEOMD) in July 2019, his replacement has been announced.The man now responsible for all of the US space agency's human flight activity is Douglas Loverro, effective 16 October 2019. Occupying a pivotal position in the agency, his most challenging task is to organise and develop a detailed timeline for placing the first woman and the next man on the lunar surface by the end of 2024, while ensuring sustained support for the International Space Station, the first flights of the Space Launch Systems and first crewed flights of the Orion spacecraft.
