Foundry planners watch FSA's packaging and wafer demand survey

Silicon foundries have grown from wafer fabs for "also ran" manufacturing to a major source of wafer fab capacity in the worldwide semiconductor industry. While this is a key industry trend, adequately monitoring the industry's need or demand for wafer-processing capacity is crucial to successfully executing this fundamental change in the industry's infrastructure. Some believe that by 2010 half of the industry's wafers will be fabricated in silicon foundries.
