VLIW: The unlikeliest computer architecture

Experienced designers, coders, and debuggers know this truth: It is the implicit assumptions you are making that cause the trouble, the things you think you know but aren't so. Those assumptions put blinders on your intellect; they cause the bugs, and then they prevent you from seeing them. Breakthroughs often come from people who somehow transcend the assumptions and have the guts to follow the newly revealed path wherever it leads. I saw this phenomenon first hand with Josh Fisher's VLIW work.
