The authors have established the effect of the composition of the dispersion medium and of the conditions of preparation of alcohol-water-coal suspensions on the rheological characteristics and sedimentation stability of such suspensions based on coals of the Kansk-Achinsk Basin. Alcohol-water-coal suspensions (AWCSs) were prepared using a mixture of aliphatic alcohols C_1-C_4. The authors traced the effect of the ratio of alcohols, fatty acids and water in the dispersion medium and also of the granulometric composition (particle-size distribution) on the viscous properties and sedimentation stability of AWCSs. The authors have demonstrated the possibility of preparation of stable alcohol-water-coal suspensions from brown coals with the use, as a dispersion medium, alcohol-hydrocarbon mixtures produced by the technology developed in this country in "sinol" and "oxyl" processes. A flowsheet is proposed for the preparation of alcohol-water-coal fuels with the grinding of brown coals in single- and two-stage operations.
