A Review of Scaling Approaches to Agile Software Development Models

Agile software development (ASD) methods were initially designed for small, co-located development team settings. There are claims asserting the ASD inherently bears an inability to scale. Yet, the charm of being agile attracts many medium- and large-sized organizations. In response to this need, Scrum authorities and practitioners came up with the idea of scaling, and they created some models and frameworks for large-scale setup. The aim of this article is to review these agile models in terms of how they provide scaling. This study takes a high-level view of the subject, not only regarding descriptive information but also in a common approach to evaluating the models for scaling, which is beyond what exists in the current literature.
