It's hard to imagine another Java-the original release of that language and platform shook the development world like nothing before or since. The phenomenal uptake rate, the dogged willingness of developers to tolerate early problems, the wild ride from a language good mainly for downloadable Duke applets to one on which much of our mission-critical infrastructure is built-these are likely never be duplicated. It's probably a good thing that our industry has matured to this extent.
