I agree that no one wants an arrogant, self-promoting CIO-wannabe as a co-worker (or employee, for that matter). However, as a supervisor, it's frustrating to ask an employee to provide an update of accomplishments for a performance review and receive a sentence that could be paraphrased as "nothing much," simply because he or she is modest. Knowing the employee to be a hard worker, I'm compelled to justify, embellish and fill in the holes myself.
