This article attempts to read the concepts of ethnicity and self-referentiality developed by Rey Chow as mechanisms of biopolitical articulation, which are particularly effective when governmental or non-governmental biopolitical agents need to suspend the imperative to enhance life, or to justify the exclusion of vast populations from their concern with life.
