Rolled zinc products manufacturer VMZinc-US was the recipient of a municipal category award in the Metal Construction Association's 2014 Chairman's Awards. VMZinc was recognized for its work on Newport Beach Civic Center in California and a 155,000-square-foot parking structure, designed by architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. The civic center includes an 88,000-square-foot city hall with zinc architectural features that helped the building earn the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold-level certification. Daniel Nicely, managing director at VMZinc and Umicore Building Products USA Inc., said the company was grateful to receive recognition. "We are honored to receive the Municipal Award in the 2014 Chairman's Awards for our work to provide the city of Newport Beach with an outstanding structure that showcases the environmentally friendly and economical properties of zinc," Nicely said.
