An essential characteristic feature of the British steam railway was its signalling equipment: from the 60 degree drop of the GWR lower quadrant to the austere LNWR signal arm, how often has it been possible to home in on the location of a photograph by the signals or signal cabin? While there are a considerable number of books on Company signalling, those on the signalling manufacturers other than their trade literature are harder to find and so this book is a welcome addition to the literature.
