The U.S. Navy has designed and is testing its own e-reader to give sailors in locations with no Wi-Fi and only secure computers plenty of reading materials. These Navy eReader Devices, or NeRDs, come loaded with a variety of titles, including best-sellers, classics and nonfiction biographies. The titles were chosen for recreational purposes; no manual or technical specifications are included, though the majority of the chief of naval operations' reading list does come standard. Three hundred books are loaded for the beta test, but the devices can accommodate more.
