CBTC to be installed between Malaysia and Singapore

Siemens Mobility has been awarded the contract to develop, install and commission a CBTC and platform screen door system for the Johor Bahru - Singapore rapid transit line. This is the first deployment of CBTC technology on a cross-border rail link. The four-kilometre line connecting Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and Woodlands, Singapore, is operated by RTS Operations, a joint venture between Singaporean rail operator SMRT and Malaysian transport company Prasarana. The Trainguard MT solution will be deployed to install CBTC on the line as well as at one station and one control centre (OCC) on both sides of the border, and the line will be equipped with GoA 4. In addition, platform screen doors will be installed at both stations; a depot will be set up on the Malaysian side to accommodate eight four-car trains. Once completed, the RTS line will be able to carry an estimated 10 000 passengers per hour and direction, which will help to relieve congestion at the existing border crossings, improve cross-border connections and boost economic activity in the region.
