EDITORIAL

Dear readers,In Germany, the ETCS system has now been fitted to 340 km of track. In addition, between 2021 and 2025, 446 km of new and upgraded line will be equipped with ETCS if funding can be secured. ETCS expansion is also being pushed forward in the Czech Republic. As a leading Central European country and EU member, the Czech Republic is following the example of Switzerland in converting the entire network to the European transport control system ERTMS. Similar to the secondary network in Switzerland, the newly implemented standard ETCS LI LS will be used throughout the region. In this issue we focus on train control systems. One article deals with the CBTC s research into railway operations, which lays the foundation for future highly automated management of operations. An exemplary study shows the positive influence of efficient train control systems on high-performance and quality-oriented local transport. CBTC is also reported in the articles on its use in the Warsaw Metro and on innovations in this sector. We also report on the officially opened "Open Digital Test Field", which is coordinated by the German Centre for Rail Transport Research (DZSF), as well as on digital, mobile traffic control in the construction site area for ETCS L2 routes.
