On september 15, 2009, in Brussels, Belgium, the European Commission hosted a seminar on FP7-the seventh round of EU funded research programs. The seminar, aimed at SMEs, provided an objective overview of research funding programs aimed at the semiconductor industry. It began with an analysis of the similarities, differences, pros and cons of the funding programs with particular relevance to the semiconductor industry. The FP7 program was looked at in detail as to its specific requirements and characteristics in terms of funded activities, funding rates, consortium requirements, proposal structure, and associated political issues.
