Highly-nonlinear Optical Fibers and Their Applications

摘要

Highly-nonlinear fibers (HNLFs) with different dispersion characteristics have been developed, and many improvements including smaller zero-dispersion wavelength fluctuation of less than 2.5 nm within 3 km length have been successfully achieved and demonstrated. Based on these improvements, a HNLF optimized for wideband wavelength conversion has been developed and successfully provides the conversion bandwidth of more than 193 nm in the length of 100 m. The latest experimental results on this development are explained in this paper, as well as some issues and future technologies on wavelength conversion. In addition, experimental results on supercontinuum generation and Raman amplification using exclusive HNLFs, and practical phenomena that need to be addressed in these technologies are also described.
