I don't remember the exact moment this whole thing went out of control, but I do remember the incident that started it all. Adobe announced a major upgrade to Photoshop, their flagship image manipulation product, and I was feeling brave. Brave enough to contact Adobe and tell them I was ready to evaluate the latest efforts of their developer legions and pass my eagle-eyed observations on to eager information professionals out there. Over the years my preference has usually been to root for the underdogs of the software world — the paring knives and potato peelers of software applications that show imagination and tenacity in the face of overwhelming odds. This time it was the killer app I was after, the one that sets the standard.
