Long Range Interceptor II To Assist Coast Guard NSC fleet

The U.S. Coast Guard on June 4 awarded Cape Vincent, N.Y.-based MetalCraft Marine Inc. and its partner, Edgewater, Fla.-based Brunswick Commercial and Government Products, a contract for the design and production of the Long Range Interceptor II (LRIII). The boat primarily will be used on the National Security Cutter (NSC) fleet as part of the Over-the-Horizon program. The five-year contract is valued at $10.2 million, if all options are exercised. The original Coast Guard request for proposal on the LRI was for up to 33 boats, but that has been scaled down to 10. The 35-foot-long LRI II has a range of 236 nautical miles and can reach 42 knots.
