Dedicated engineers, like driven artists and gifted inventors, never rest on their laurels. The design engineering team working at the headquarters of Thieme in Germany certainly bear this out. Four-years ago the Tenginen team launched the second generation Thieme multi colour line which was quickly to become the most successful three-quarter/fully automatic screen-printing machine of our time: the Thieme 5000. Yet, despite world-wide sales of the model already topping the 100 mark, they have not been content to put away their slide rules. For 2005, they have developed a new large-format version which, they claim, will noticeably out-perform the previous model. The old adman's cliche 'bigger and better' neatly sums up the THIEME 5000 XL, as the third generation series is to be called. Bigger, because the model has been specifically designed to extend even further the maximum sheet size which a three-quarter/fully automatic flatbed press can effectively accommodate. Better, because at the same time it offers even faster set-up and easier operation than its predecessor—which itself is acknowledged for setting new benchmarks for efficiency in large-format, multi-colour printing.
