Inkjet prices continue to fall, but the cost of many industrial-grade models remains prohibitive to screen printers who wish to expand their imaging capabilities to include short-run production of display graphics. Many screen printers who can afford to purchase wide-format inkjet printers select solvent systems because these devices can simulate results produced by the screen process. However, the use of solvent inks requires dedicated exhausts or fume-extraction systems to remove volatile organic compounds from the air. These ventilation setups can significantly increase the cost of owning and operating an inkjet printer-especially if it's used primarily for on-demand work.
