EVALUATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN THE STRUCTURAL FUNDS

In the European Commission evaluations were pioneered within the RTD programmes and those of the Structural Funds in the 1980's and are now slowly becoming common practice in all EU programmes. The European Structural Fund programmes are regularly subject to three types of evaluation: ex-ante assessments, mid-term evaluations and ex-post evaluations. These are normally undertaken in close co-operation between the Member States and the Commission.
