Apomixis: The Asexual Revolution

摘要

Sexual reproduction is intrinsic to the life cycles of most eukaryotes. Some flowering plants (angiosperms), however, can follow asexual life cycles that rely on recurrent apo-mixis, the formation of seeds with a set of genes identical to that of thematernal parent. If the process of apomixis can be understood and harnessed, the benefits for agriculture are potentially enormous.
