Yellowstone River Spill Not Good For Wildlife, But Could Be Worse

An ExxonMobil oil pipe ruptured outside of Laurel, Montana, on 1 July, spilling up to 1000 barrels of crude oil into the Yellowstone River. The swift flow of the snowmelt-swollen river is preventing the oil from building up on large animals as it did in the 2010 Gulf Coast spill, but is also spreading the oil more than 100 kilometers downstream.
