Nuclear Power Stalls in Italy

Plans to build new nuclear reactors in Italy have stalled following March's accident at the Fukushima plant in Japan. In 2008, Italy's government announced it wanted to construct four nuclear plants by 2013 to reduce its dependence on imported energy. That would reverse a ban on nuclear energy set after the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. But the Japanese accident led Italy to put a 1 -year moratorium on its nuclear program, and, last week, to delay the creation of new plants indefinitely.
