Japanese officials announced this week that they are expanding the evacuation zone around the stricken Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear reactors after relatively high levels of radiation were found beyond the 20-kilometer evacuation zone and even the 30-kilometer zone within which people have been told to stay indoors. Japan's Nuclear Safety Commission is now recommending relocation over the next month for those living in areas where the accumulated dose over a year will reach 20 millisieverts.
