New Treasures at Angkor Wat

Airborne laser imaging, or LiDAR, has revealed the imprint of a vast medieval cityscape surrounding Angkor Wat, Earth's largest religious monument. The findings were unveiled last week at a UN. World Heritage meeting in Phnom Penh. The Angkor kingdom was the heart of the Khmer Empire of the 9th to 15th centuries C.E., and Angkor was the most extensive city of its kind in the preindustrial world.
