Heavy metals exposure and electromagnetic hypersensitivity

The article by Ghezel-Ahmadi et al. (2010) provides useful information on blood levels of lead, mercury, and cadmium among individuals suffering from nonoccupational exposure to electromagnetic fields and recently referred to as electrohypersensitive (EHS) persons. They found no significant differences in mercury, cadmium, and lead blood concentrations in EHS group, as compared with those who did not have a history of electromagnetic sensitivity (Ghezel-Ahmadi et al., 2010). Two points should be considered in this regard. First these findings are not surprising since previous toxicological studies have established that these three heavy metals tend to be retained in soft and hard tissues as well as sequestered into organs -probably as a form of chemical defense - both in humans and in animal models (Goyer and Clarkson, 2001).
