摘要

The sample size available for analysis in my recent publication (Jain, RB., Trends in serum cotinine concentrations among daily cigarette smokers: Data from NHANES 1999-2010, Sc Tot Env, 2014, 472, 72-77) was incorrectly reported to be 3785 based on a previous version of this study. Actually, there were a total of 4169 participants in the database. After excluding those with missing value for serum cotinine and certain other variables, the sample size available for analysis was 3465 (gender: males N = 1881, females N = 1584; race/ethnicity: non-Hispanic white (NHW) N = 1946, non-Hispanic black (NHB) N = 828, Mexican American (MA) N = 388, others (OTH) N = 303; CMS: non-menthol N = 2356, menthol N = 1109). Additional observations were lost from the analysis because of missing values for the data on second hand smoke. Also, a statement on p. 73 of this communication that "These data were not collected for NHANES cycles 201-2002 and 2003-2004" was incorrect. It should be noted that the data for both family smoking and occupational questionnaires were available for the entire study period of 1999-2010 and were used in the analysis that was presented in this communication.
