Nippon Kagaku Miraikan, Japan's largest science & technology information base, will open in July 2001, to be run by Japan Science and Technology Corp. (JST). It is currently under construction within the Tokyo Academic Park, which will be situated in the Aomi district of the Tokyo waterfront subcenter area. With the complex scheduled for completion next May, it will center on the exhibit theme of "Depicting a New Dream for the 21st Century"; an outline as presently available is herewith provided. With the furtherance of the trend away from the scientific disciplines among the young people as well as the continuing decline in terms of "productivity" which the Japanese were able pride themselves on, the government decided to establish a nation based on creativity of science & technology. To attain this goal, there is a need to build a new social system, lifestyle and culture based on an understanding of science & technology by people.
