R&D History of JCR Pharmaceuticals in the View of Bioengineering Progress

The following introduces the history of JCR Pharmaceuticals' R&D activities in view of the world progress in bioengineering technology. Evolutionary progress was made in the field of biotechnology in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Genetically transformed cells were produced by a DNA recombinant technique using plasmids and vectors incorporated with chemically and enzymatically synthesized DNA. In this way, methods of producing proteins and pep-tides were developed by using these new DNA techniques which then led to the successful achievement of the biosynthesis of insulin in 1977 and that of human growth hormone in 1979.
