Energy and Environmental Issues in the 21st Century and the Future of Nuclear Power

A public symposium organized by the University of Tokyo, Harvard University, and Kennedy School of Government was held in Tokyo on July 21, 2000. Since 1998, the universities have jointly studied various problems relating to nuclear power-particularly from social and political viewpoints-under the "Managing the Atom Project." Following is the extract of a lecture made by Professor John P. Holdren of Harvard University at the symposium.
