The Present Status and Future Perspectives of the NICHe

The New Industry Creation Hatchery Center (NICHe), Tohoku University, is an undertaking that features a very special liaison function as well as an R&D function. The center aims to create new technologies and industries based on collaboration between industry and academia. Since its establishment in April 199S, the NICHe has been exploring possibilities for contributions of the universities to society. It employs liaison staffs that include science, engineering, economic and law professors and coordinators from private businesses, governmental agencies and university officers as well as visiting professors including lawyers and attorneys. The NICHe features substantial facilities for offering one-stop services related to industry/acade-mia collaboration.
